THEATRE RESPONSE: IDOLS OF THE KING

ELVIS LIVES! He is currently performing his greatest hits at the California Theatre in San Jose thanks to the amazing Scot Bruce who plays him so well- you will think it's Elvis on that stage. I had the unique pleasure of seeing their last dress rehearsal on Monday - the evening started with a tour of the California Theatre which is the most beautiful theatre I have ever been in.

Idols of the King, a production by San Jose Stage Company is playing from July 5-23 - (exactly when we perform Urinetown - so some of us from the cast went to see the show on Monday evening.) I must say that I didn't think I would get so emotionally involved with the show - the premise is simple: 2 brilliant actors play many different characters - characters that in some way or another have Elvis stories to tell. These stories are intertwined with live performances from Elvis and some of the highlights include: Hound Dog, Can't Help Falling In Love, Love Me Tender & Jailhouse Rock - but there are plenty more. I truly enjoyed seeing this show and I highly recommend it to those Elvis fans - (it's a must for you guys) but to those who may not necessarily know much about the King - the show is a revelation. Go check it out. Lisa Recker & Randy King play the two actors and they do so hilariously & brilliantly - they have so many costume changes and make each character so believable. But the show belongs to Scot Bruce who shakes, rattles & rolls and made me swoon more than once. It's a fun show - go check it out.
